Felix Tarke could be the hero of his story, but he may just as easily be the villain. In a world of elemental magic, he walks the line of a civil war that ravages the Illumic Empire. With his heritage on one side and his friends aligning with the rebels, Felix remains unsure of which to choose. All of that changes, however, when his father is assassinated by the Emperor’s soldiers, leaving Felix orphaned and kindled with vengeance. Rising from the ashes of trauma, Felix journeys to the Academy of Guiding of Illumis in order to destroy those responsible for his father’s death.
In spite his hatred for the Empire, Felix finds the people of the capital kind and welcoming. When he’s is tangled in a political conspiracy, Felix bands together with those he once believed to be enemies in order to stop it. Even so, he can’t help but feel like he’s playing right into the Empire’s hands. As his allies and rivals blur together, Felix is left unsure of who to trust and wondering whether he’ll be seen as a champion or a conqueror in the years to come.
